The 12th International Congress on Engineering and Food (ICEF12)

Michael Ngadi, McGill University, Canada

Hosahalli RamaswamyDr. Ngadi is a Professor at McGill University with over 20 years experience in teaching, conducting frontline research and supervising projects related to food and bioprocess engineering. His expertise covers the broad areas of food quality and safety with emphasis on heat and mass transfer processes in foods, hyperspectral imaging, microstructure and properties of foods, packaging and advanced emerging processing technologies for ensuring optimal quality and safety of foods as well as producing other bioproducts such as biofuels. He is internationally recognized for his work on fat absorption during frying, rapid non-destructive  assessment of meat quality and non-thermal.

technologies such as pulsed electric field and ultraviolet light. His work on these areas has resulted to over 150 peer reviewed technical papers, book chapters and more than 200 presentations in various international meetings. He has 1 world-wide patent and 5 reports of inventions. These contributions earned him several awards and peer recognitions. Dr. Ngadi has taught several courses at McGill University including Food Process Engineering, Food Safety Engineering, Biothermodynamics, Material Science, Engineering Design, Mechanics of Materials and Linear Algebra. He has graduated more than 20 students at the Master’s and Doctoral levels as well as trained several Post-doctoral Fellows. He has been visiting Professor and he has been involved in collaborative projects in Mexico, China, India and France as well several countries in Africa. He was Vice-President of the Canadian Society for Biological Engineering (CSBE), Chair of the Northeast Agricultural and Biological Engineering Conference (NABEC, a community of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE)). He is Associate Editor of the Transactions of the ASABE. He is currently Chair of the Food Process Engineering Institute of ASABE. He serves on the board of the International Commission of Agricultural Engineering (CIGR), Section VI. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and contributions to Food Process Engineering, Dr. Ngadi was appointed the prestigious William Dawson Scholar (Canada Research Chair, Tier 2) at McGill University and received the John Clark Award of the CSBE. He is the Director of the Integrated Food and Bioprocess program at McGill University.
